An acrylic mirror is a plastic sheet with a reflective coating applied to one side. It looks similar to a glass mirror but weighs much less and is less likely to break when hit.
How Is an Acrylic Mirror Made?
A clear acrylic sheet forms the front surface. A reflective metallic layer and protective backing are added behind it, allowing you to see a reflection through the acrylic.
Because the material is lighter and easier to shape than glass, it is often used where weight or breakage is a concern.
Does It Reflect as Clearly as Glass?
Acrylic can provide a clear reflection when it is flat and properly supported. However, thin or large sheets may bend slightly and create visible distortion.
It also scratches more easily than glass. Soft cleaning materials and non-abrasive cleaners are therefore important.
