A bathroom mirror is the mirror installed above or near a bathroom sink so you can see yourself while washing your face, brushing your teeth, shaving, doing skincare, or applying makeup.
It may be a simple framed or frameless wall mirror. Other bathroom mirrors include LED lighting, anti-fog heating, touch controls, sensors, or storage behind the reflective surface.
Key Features of a Bathroom Mirror
- Wall-mounted design: Most bathroom mirrors are installed above a sink or vanity.
- Clear reflective surface: The mirror provides a practical view of the face and upper body for everyday grooming.
- Different shapes and styles: Common options include rectangular, round, arched, oval, framed, and frameless mirrors.
- Optional lighting: LED bathroom mirrors may include front lighting, backlighting, or both.
- Optional anti-fog function: A heated pad behind the glass can help keep part of the mirror clear in a steamy bathroom.
- Optional storage: Medicine cabinet mirrors combine a reflective door with shelves or storage space.
How Does a Bathroom Mirror Work?
Most bathroom mirrors are made by applying a reflective metallic coating to the back of a glass panel. Light from the room and the person standing in front of the mirror passes through the glass, reaches the reflective layer, and returns to the viewer’s eyes.
Protective coatings cover the reflective layer on the back of the mirror. In an LED bathroom mirror, a separate electrical system powers the lights, touch controls, sensors, and anti-fog pad.
