What Is Lux?

Lux measures the amount of visible light that reaches a surface. One lux equals one lumen spread over one square meter.

Unlike lumens, which describe the total light produced, lux tells you how strongly a particular area is illuminated.

Why Does Lux Change with Distance?

Light spreads as it moves away from its source. Your face may therefore receive less illumination when you stand farther from a mirror, even though the LEDs continue producing the same number of lumens.

The angle of the light, the size of the illuminated area, and nearby reflective surfaces can also affect a lux reading.

What Does Lux Mean for Mirror Lighting?

Lux can help describe the amount of light reaching the face or vanity area. However, a high reading does not automatically mean the lighting will be comfortable. Glare, shadows, color accuracy, and evenness also matter.
