CRI stands for Color Rendering Index. It tells you how naturally colors appear under a light compared with a reference light source. The scale runs up to 100, and a higher number generally means more accurate-looking colors.
What Does a CRI Number Tell You?
A light with a low CRI can make skin, makeup, clothing, and room finishes look dull or slightly unnatural. A higher-CRI light makes it easier to distinguish subtle differences between similar shades.
This is particularly useful around a mirror, where small changes in foundation, lipstick, hair color, or skin tone need to be easy to see.
Does CRI Measure Brightness?
No. CRI describes color quality, not how much light a lamp produces. Lumens measure light output, while lux describes how much light reaches a surface.
A mirror light can therefore be bright but still reproduce colors poorly. CRI should be considered together with brightness and color temperature.
